Underground Tour of Rome - Crypts and Subterraneans
An entire city is hidden underneath modern Rome. It is the ancient city buried underground that we explore on this tour. Our expert archeologists will take you down to crypts, cemeteries, sewers, mysterious temples in a unique fascinating adventure.
The tour starts from Piazza Barberini with the fountain of triton design by Bernini. Our guide will take you to the Crypt of the Capuchins and its creepy collection of bones, skulls, pelvises of more than 4000 friars.
You will then reach the church of St. Clemens and its subterraneans. The medieval church was built above a IV century basilica that in turn was founded over a rich ancient toman house and a mythraic temple.
You will then follow the Papal way to the Basilica of St. John in Lateran, Rome's oldest church. It is the city cathedral and houses exquisite medieval mosaics, renaissance frescoes and the tombs of many popes. The tour will end by the Ancient City Walls that date back to 275 AD.
